Frequently Asked Questions

How many spaces are available each year?
We are a small kindergarten of 20 children and we have approximately 5 to 7 spots available each July/August.

How are children chosen for a spot in KIDS?
Siblings are awarded preference. We maintain a ratio of German/Bilingual/English speakers, an even number of boys and girls and balanced size peer groups. Parent participation is also a requirement. This is the criteria with which we choose candidates to interview/accept.

Can I e-mail you to inquire about our application?
Yes of course, however we will notify families on our application list who meet our criteria when we have an available spot that matches them.

Is it possible to visit the kindergarten?
Due to the high amount of applications we receive, we only can offer prospective candidates for a vacancy to come and visit the kindergarten. If your child matches the necessary criteria for a particular spot dependent on gender, age and language/nationality, we will arrange an interview with you and your child. This interview gives you an opportunity to visit KIDS Kindergarten, meet the teaching team and ask any questions you might have.

I have tried to call you, but I always get the answer phone. How can I speak to someone?
As the teaching team is busy looking after the KIDS children during the opening times you will find that the phone is usually only answered by an answering machine. The easiest way to get in contact with us is by e-mail. If you would like to speak to someone personally, please send us a short e-mail with your phone number and we will be happy to call you. All questions related to the application process should be sent to [email protected]. For any other queries please write to [email protected].

I have submitted my application form. Why haven't I heard from you since?

We confirm the receipt of your application form by e-mail and include your child on our waiting list. You will then only hear from us again if a place becomes available and your child matches the necessary criteria for this particular place. The criteria are dependent on gender, age and language/nationality. If a place becomes available you will be invited to an interview so you can visit the kindergarten, meet the teaching team and ask any questions you might have. Following the interview the New Kids Committee and the teaching team will decide whether to offer your child the place at KIDS.

Our child does not speak English yet. Is this a problem?
No. Strenuous efforts are made to ensure an even ratio of English / bilingual / German-speakers. All our teachers are fluent in German and English.

Our child does not speak German or English. Can we still apply?
Yes. Our teaching team is specially qualified and has a lot of experience in integrating children who do not speak either English or German.

I only need a half-day place. Do I pay less then?
You may pick up your child at lunch time. However, we only offer 2/3 places and no fee reductions can be granted for picking up your child at an earlier time.

We live outside of Frankfurt City. Can we still apply for a place?
As we are heavily subsidized by the City of Frankfurt and the State of Hesse your child is required to be a Frankfurt resident in order to be accepted into KIDS Kindergarten.

When should I apply for a kindergarten spot?
As we do not operate our waiting list on a first come first served basis, but rather look for the best match to the KIDS community, it is never too late to apply for a place. Ideally you submit your application one year prior to your child's 3rd birthday.

If you would like to register your child, please fill out the online application form.

When and how will I know if my child has been accepted?
Once we have conducted all the interviews to fill a vacancy, the New Kids Committee in conjunction with the teaching team will make a decision as soon as possible, since we are aware that uncertainty about kindergarten places is very unpleasant for prospective parents. Once your child is accepted you will receive an e-mail or phone call from the Board offering you the spot. The Board will then send you the contract.
